Avatar icons?

In LJ spam today comes this question from yours truly: the avatar icons? Anyone want to help me out?

I went to the site and made one I loved, and could not for the life of me figure out how to download it, much less make an icon of it.

me = technologically impaired

Anyone? Bueller?

All I did, once I hit "finish" to make the avatar, was right-click and save it as an image on my hard drive. Then I just re-sized it and saved it as a .gif. I don't know whether it's the most elegant way to do it, but...

Do you have icon making capabilities? If not, I'd be happy to do that part for you if you send me the image.

I've never made an icon in my life, more's the pity. I rely on the kindness of strangers serasempre for that, usually.

Let me try it again, saving it to the hard drive. If I size it 100x100, that works for an icon,yes? (So terribly pathetic, I know.)

Heh, I did the very same thing when I first hit lj. serasempre is the best.

Yep, resize it to 100x100 pixels and save it as a .gif or jpeg (at least, that's what I do - there are probably other image file types that are fine, too, but my experience and knowledge about such things are limited).
