What do I need to edit photos at home? Is PhotoShop the only software?

We had a trial edition of Dell Image Expert that expired, and we have Pixela, which came with our little mini digital camera. I can do some editing with Pixela, but only photos that I've taken with the camera (I think). I also have trouble changing the pixels -- I don't think you can do it manually, and when you change the first number, it automatically assigns a bottom number, so I've never been able to make something 100x100, for instance.

What about Picasa? Or is that just like Flickr?

I just want to be able to make some of my own icons, and resize photos, and I don't want to buy any kind of expensive software. Suggestions?

I know this probably isn't the "right" way to do it. But I just open the pic I want to play with in Paint.
To crop: use the Select tool - Copy - Paste (into new Paint window).
To check the size (inches, cm, or pixels): Image - Attributes.
To change the size go to: Image - Stretch/Skew.
*shrug*

Hey, who cares? If it works...

Off to try it.

Paint isn't a bad program to play with and can do many of the resizing type things (though I find it much harder than photoshop) but you know I am always willing to do anything you'd like. It's not the same as getting to do it yourself, but I'd be quick.

Thanks, ma'am! I tried Paint and it worked pretty well, but we seem not to have a Text toolbar -- when I scroll down that menu, "Text" is gray. So I can't add text, which sucks.

I don't know if this will work for you or not, but I just now typed in Word, copied it, and then pasted it into Paint. It might be difficult to format that way if it even works for you.

Perhaps one of the programs on this page might be useful:

ooh! ohh! I know this one! *snerk*
It took a lot of previous playing around (and head banging) to figure this one out.
Hit the "A" text tool thingie on the left side.
Drop a little text box where you want it.
Go up and click "View"
Put a check next to "text tool bar"
Yay!
Ha!

I received the additional postcards today. They'll be going out tomorrow. Did you already mail any to any other Bronzers? I don't want to double card.

I sent my postcards to: wanttoknow, Mrs.Beasley, Lady Ireland, Margot, OldManFan, Dianne, EverDawn, Mercy, Swoop, and OzLady. I just replied to an e from Dak. He asked for your home addy. He's mentioned a few times that they'd love to visit you when they're up that way. Would you be okay with that? I told him while he's up there he could pick up some hand-me-downs for us. *grin*
HUGS!

Totally fine -- I should have emailed him, but I don't know if I still have his address. He and Barb were so sweet to come to that booksigning last summer.

And I will *send* you hand-me-downs if you want them, silly!

Good, I already gave him your home addy. *sheepish grin* I should have asked you first. Sorry. They're just the NICEST people. I didn't think you'd mind.
I also told him to check out your webpage (and new book).

Hey! Don't ruin my fun! I like to have "excuses" for gatherings and meeting. They can go up to see you and pick up the clothes. And then I can schedule a meeting with them (and others) so they can deliver the clothes. I like getting packages... but I also like saving money and planning gatherings. *snerk*
