It's about a hundred percent humidity here today, so excuse the rantiness. Every single thing in this house feels damp.

1) Stephen's last paycheck and commission check have failed to arrive. They were due in. our. account. via direct deposit two weeks ago today, and despite numerous phone calls, they have not shown up. Of course, during the course of the first conversation, that same Friday, the girl moron in human resources said the checks had been mailed. Even the United States Postal Service is not this slow. We're about ready to call a lawyer.

2) Knickknacks. They should be illegal. Especially when most of them are religious icons of one kind or another. And when they're everywhere. In. every. room. Including the bathroom.

3) I'm not going to Reno. I'm more and more bummed about this, the closer it gets. I didn't go to Denver last year, and the year before that I was pregnant with Sara and only at the NYC conference peripherally, staying at my friend's apartment. I love National, although I'll admit I loved it more when I was working. Charging every meal (at the hotel at least) to my room, since as an editor I was always treating my authors, and generally socializing 24/7 for four days straight didn't suck. Plus, I loved my authors, with very few exceptions. Plus plus, a hotel room! Room service! A remote of my very own! I'm going to miss that. I'm going to Atlanta next year if I have to commit murder to do so.

4) Living with my brother-in-law is not getting any easier. The food obsession is particularly irritating. He carries his morning "coffee stuff" down from his room in a tied plastic bag, and makes his "dinner" at about 11 p.m., the ingredients for which come out of a cooler he also keeps in his room. If you happen into the kitchen while he's eating, his uneasiness is palpable. And he likes to slide the pocket door closed, so the dog won't beg from him while he's cooking/eating, but since the door (like every other one in the house) is sticky and only semi-operable, getting it open or closed again while he's in there is annoying. as. hell.

5) I'm being overdosed on Fox News and conservative talk radio. They're on all. the. time. And what's most infuriating is when said BiL is in the kitchen, leaning in to watch Fox News on the mini TV, with the radio ON on the counter, turned up loud. Baffling.

Surely that's enough cranky for one morning.
