An inauspicious beginning.

I joined NaNoWriMo this year, which I've never done before, and I have to say, I'm not thrilled with the site. I was able to log in exactly once so far today, but before I could actually *do* anything, the site timed out. Um, guys? Sort of a problem.

I'm cheating, which I'll make clear from the start -- I'm using it as a tool to finish my zombie book, which is already started. I don't care about winning or verifying, but I still want to make the 50,000 word goal, since that should give me a finished draft, based on what I have done so far.

Of course, being able to post my word count would be nice, which I can't. So I'll say here that I wrote 847 words today, which is not much, but better than the nothing I wrote yesterday.

Yeah, the site is badly overloaded. I've only been able to get in and update after repeated refreshes. I'm not even going to try to update my word count till late tonight.

It's infuriating. I can't figure out how to make writing buddies or any of it. Totally non-intuitive site. Grrr.

I think they've got a lot of the features disabled just to get them through the first few days' rush. I friended Barb Ferrer and Jennifer Echols a few days before the start, but the author search function where I tracked them down isn't there now.

I'm just going to track my word count once a day for the first week or so, and if it's calmed down by then I'll start adding more friends and so on. (I'm SusanWilbanks, in case they enable author search anytime soon.)

I'm bottleofbooze. I wasn't feeling very somber the day I signed up. ;-)

Snerk.

I'll look for you when the site lets me.

Yeah, the site definitely bites. And like I told you earlier, I'd rather they have done away with the other geegaw and twiddly shit as opposed to the author search.

Feh.

So. Not. Impressed.

ME. EITHER.

I believe the NaNo site is notoriously useless the first few days of the month. Not that I've ever participated... this year especially, [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo is more my speed.
