BtVS/Angel question

Is it canon that the Immortal was a vampire (see: S5 Angel, "The Girl in Question")?

I'm remembering only references to savagery and sexual prowess, but not particularly to blood sucking.

Anyone?

I believe that, other than being Immortal and Sexy, his status was not specified. I inferred that he was not, however, a vampire. (They may have said, and I missed in the eye-rolling, of course. But I'm pretty certain he was not a vamp.)
