Cheesefest

For all the good TV out there right now (and I'm thinking Friday Night Lights, which blew me away last night, despite some possibly over-the-top-ness), I am incredibly susceptible to cheese.

What's cheese, you say? Well, there's cheddar and mozzarella and Monterey Jack and Camembert and brie and fontina and parmesan and gorgonzola, and come on, people, all behold the power of, and all that. Seriously.

But I mean, Cheese TV. Such as (prepare yourself) The Blue Lagoon. Which, okay, was a movie first, but I'm counting as TV anything I can flick around the channels and find on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Which I did, today. Just in time to see those innocent kids discover the joy of kissing, and wind up pregnant in record time. I must have seen this movie a hundred times when I was too young to know better, but did it stop me from watching it today? Nope. Oh my god, it's bad. And so SO good.

I've moved on to the big dance finale of Center Stage, which counts as cheese if only because of Peter Gallagher playing a bitchy choreographer. Dance movies! So often cheese, and so delicious.

I'll need to tune in to something on PBS later, won't I?

Friday Night Lights

FNL was so good last night! Wow. I hope it gains an audience now that they had the brainstorm to put it on .... Friday Night.

The summer of 7th grade (1986) was a very warm one in upstate NY, and we had neither air conditioning nor cable. My mother also did not believe in sleeping with a fan on.

For some reason, the movie Blue Lagoon was on network TV at 3 am a whole bunch of times. In my memory, it seems like I watched Blue Lagoon every night that whole summer. I practically had it memorized!

The weirdest thing is that my friend Maria, who I met in college, remembers the same thing!

That was such a wonderful episode of FNL. In the first five minutes alone I was almost literally bouncing I was so happy with it. It's hard not to love it.

Yeah, no kidding. It makes so much sense! Last season I kept missing it *because* I thought it was on Friday nights ... and then it wasn't.

I want a Coach Taylor of my very own. And possibly a Saracen, who is the most adorable that ever adorabled.

That's so funny!

A friend mine saw Endless Love, another total cheesy favorite, about nine times the summer it was in theaters because she'd broken her leg and couldn't do much *but* get dropped off at the movies. That summer is all Brooke Shields all the time for her.

It really is. It's absolutely one of the best hours of TV I've seen in a long time.
